About our Team



The Student Experience and Development Office is looking to appoint a Student Wellbeing Advisor. Based at the Dubai Campus, the post-holder will be a member of a diverse and vibrant team. The main focus for the role is to deliver professional support services to foundation, undergraduate and postgraduate students. The team cover a range of activities including academic and personal counselling, welfare and disability support.


Detailed Description



The post plays a key role in the delivery of a pro-active, professional support service to students. The post holder will act as a central point of contact for prospective and current students. This includes advice, assessment and arrangements for students with disabilities, advice on funding and hardship funds, and support to deal with personal issues. Other tasks include carrying a caseload of students who need ongoing support; liaising with academic staff to ensure that the recommended support is delivered and making onward referrals to counsellors and other mental health professionals at Dubai Community Health Centre.


Key duties and responsibilities


The objectives of the post-holder will be to:


  • Provide an information, advice and guidance service to students on Dubai Campus.

  • Assess and advise individual students regarding their support needs, including reasonable adjustments for students with disabilities. Co-ordinate the provision of specific support and services to students.

  • Screen students for Specific Learning Difficulties (dyslexia ) and make referrals for further assessment by Educational Psychologists.

  • Liaise with academic and other support departments in order to administer support arrangements for students with disabilities, including exam arrangements. Provide advice and guidance to staff within these areas regarding disability and mental health related issues. Carry out initial assessments with students who present with mental health difficulties and provide ongoing support as required. Identify where there is a need for formal counselling or ongoing Psychological or Psychiatric services and make appropriate referrals to external agencies.

  • Planning and delivering student induction in conjunction with Academic Schools.
    Provide consultation for academic and administrative staff on how they may deal with situations relating to personal and disability issues.

  • Operating the ‘Thinking of Leaving’ Service for students at risk of non progression.

  • The Student Advisor will also engage and assist in other functions and services deemed necessary by the Director of Administration and Registrar.

  • The Student Advisor will lassie with colleagues at the UK campus to ensure consistency of service provision
